That's the entire problem, isn't it?
People like Hero and Cherry had assumed for the longest time, that 'monsters' were savage creatures, unable of emotion or higher thought, who only exist to bring misery and death to the 'civilized society'...oh and to be slain by apt adventurers, naturally.
It's a lot like the hunting games that were all the rage up to the 19th century.
Back then, animals were also treated as inferior creatures, who merely existed for the purpose of getting hunted and killed.
I'm not a vegan myself and I understand that, in order to remain fed, lives have to be taken (be it animal or plant...lives are necessarily lost. That's just the way this world works).
However I have little sympathy for those who take lives for the 'thrill of the hunt' alone, only to display their unfortunate prey as trophy.
Cause that is just sad.
Good thing we perceive the games we play as 'not real', otherwise we'd be truly monstrous creatures ourselves...seeing how many lives we take without even so much as batting an eye.
I dunno. I think I get what we're going for here, but it's not like Diane and Dragobo haven't killed monsters of their own before. Admittedly, I think Diane is kinda on edge since she learned she was a monster like, yesterday and now she has spikes and such. She's like that person who learns that she's 1/8th Cherokee and suddenly talks about her native culture and cultural appropriation. It might take her a minute to get over herself.
I'm confident Dragobo will get over it, though.
So I’ve just discovered the wonderful world of Final Fantasy recently, starting with 1 on the nes. It’s great so far, and next I plan to play seven on the switch (woof, what a jump), and it occurs to me this comic was originally made as a parody of it. Naturally, I remember far too many details of this, so...have I ruined the game before even playing it?
In regards to today’s comic, that TV reflection was neato.
Nawww, you're fine. The biggest thing that will spoil FF7 is that it looks like hot hot garbage from today's point of view. I'd recommend going to FF6, just because sprites have a more evergreen look to them than early 3d polygons, and it's a lot of fun. Regardless, both games should still be fun once you get over the clunky graphics, and there are plenty of fun plot points even if the main ones were spoiled for you.
While RPGW is definitely a parody of Final Fantasy and other RPGs, the plot is so vastly different that no, it hasn't spoiled anything whatsoever. :) Go enjoy my favorite RPG!
That’s a relief! Thanks! What I can play is limited by system. Of what I have, the OG nes and switch ports are my limits. Sad, yes, but better than no Final Fantasy!
Oh hey, now the remaining party members are conveniently Hero, Cherry and Reka (3). And the members that left are also conveniently 3 (Eikre, Diane and Rabble Rouser). I assume Howard would join Dragobo just like the old days.
Now would be a great time for this cutscene to either wrap-up or end so we can do a 2 (maybe 3, i.e. Dragobo Dungeon 2) party split focus.
Also sidenote: I really hope they're going to upgrade their equipment sometime soon. It feels like Hero has had the Terror Sword for like, forever.
