#691 - Say Wha-!?

#691 - Say Wha-!?

This was such a big page that not even PATRONS got early access to it! You're all experiencing it together! You hear that? My Patrons didn't even get the ONE THING THEY PAID FOR! Aaaaa ha ha--- wait, when I say it out loud--

So anyway yeah that happened ^
Anyone call it? I've got a betting pool for people who called it (it is full of Sand Nickels)

I've been very excited for this page. And I'm VERY excited for another! Oh ~ tee hee! But I won't tell which. Until after the fact. But it's coming!

Would it be "Someone tries an electric attack and oh hey, for the first time, physics takes hold and it damages everyone"?

Strip 691 not nice!
How could Tuna do this to me; I mean the gang! You and Reka dabbed. Dabbed!

Anger. Sadness. Anger and then sadness.

This sh!t never happened when my man Eikre joined the team. It never happened when Galgarion joined the team!

I hope Tuna can't deactivate their breathing powers.

I jokingly mentioned a Tunalesca boss fight on 675, then mentioned that a potential reason for her reaction on 679 could be that she might have to betray them, on account of her position, and her race potentially being a 4th of the 3 races to vie for the lead spot in the next age. I also advised her to control her thoughts on 681, with Hero reintroducing the 'thought bubble reading'.

Reka's father's message in 671-672, and thinking through why he would have taken those steps is what got me thinking along those lines in the first place.

It's been a while, but I think I had a 5%, 40%, and 20% chance of the plot going as I mentioned on those 3 comics. Does any of that count? Not sure. Definitely hadn't reentered my mind for that as an upcoming reveal since the hiatus ended though. If it does count, I'll take a fistful of sand. Might be useful as a blinding agent in a melee fight.

As to my current thoughts on their respective standing: from the gift of the modding drill on 682, I don't think there is any ill will from her against them, though her role may still put her at odds with them, and I wouldn't expect her to go easy on them. (Again, her's is a potential 4th race in the running)

@Pop, I think they should be fine even without Tuna providing magical gills, if she were so inclined. In our detail discussion on 684, I mentioned that the original appearances on 184/179 having shown that the scuba gear does have rebreathers, but that they aren't always shown. Cutscene vs gameplay differences.

@DoomDragon Well done on the breadcrumbs and long term planning!

The way the wrench makes a heart is a clever design, and that's obviously something you thought of well ahead of the reveal. - Have you seen a similar mechanism before? I think I have, once, but I don't believe it was used to make a locking mechanism.

2nd question: with having this device as a hidden compartment on a Copycatter... I need to know... Was it was always a living box, (which the father would have had to contend with; possibility incapacitating it to make the mods) or was made to live through magic later?

I'd like to think that if it's the former, the creature took up boxing lessons in self defense, to protect it against being violated again. (Not enough against this 4 man crew)

Very nice analyses! Definitely dropped some little hints here and there.

1: I can't remember! I vaguely feel like I have, but I don't remember the specific inspiration for it.

2: Who knows! Maybe it was a chest that got enchanted. I didn't think that far weeeeee!!

?: Tuna being able to turn off their breathing was a sticking point for a while, which is why I ended up going the SCUBA route. Now it's independent of her! And luckily since they were used waay back in the original comic it wasn't too much of a stretch

Given your AI's competence and your most outstanding "aspect" Tuna, I wouldn't rule out a "dumb chest" as still not being the boss fight. 😏

And no, didn't call it.

Oh shiiiiiiiiit! These books bring out the worst in people, I swear.

Man people should really hide those things or something 😛

I didn't see it coming, but it DOES make sense, considering how their people have been labeled monsters by the humans and can't leave their territory without being attacked indiscriminately wanting the power of one of the books to be able to push back against it perfectly fits within the narrative

I did see this coming. When Tuna went all power-thirsty about the zechenien flow, I was like "Oh, temporary guest character going to transition into a boss position. This is classic 90s RPG".

You faked me out when they left the city, though, I thought I was just being paranoid. So in a sense, I also didn't see this coming HERE. Nice twist, very nice.

Yep, I voiced the concern two strips later at the start of the fight with HMRK, back when I was using the Lurker handle.

Come to think of it, suspicions of Tuna being a heel-turn villain were what got me commenting on the comic in the first place, so good going DoomDragon!

Aww, hurray! This comment makes me happy. Glad to have had you for so long! ♥️

Starting to wonder if the dumb chest was a planned trap to waste the party's supplies, considering what Hero did during the fight.

Man you're killing me here. It's "Say whaaaaat".

I could have gone with the classic "Nani!?!?
