Turns out the trees are actually a herd of executors, and Cid can talk to them.

So the group just needs to find the Y-position table, and they will have full access to the surface map. Then another side quest for the Z-position table to reach the final few maps. Probably won't find those for a while, but it's good to at least find this one so early in the story.
They have the same sort of chemistry that Hero and Cherry did at the beginning of the (original) comic! Syd is just generally amiable and Plum is routinely dumbfounded by his antics but tolerates him anyway while being sub-optimally competent herself.
The original comic could have started with them as the focus characters and Hero & party as a group they just routinely ran into (albeit intentionally as Plum was hunting down Cherry originally).
There could totally be a spin-off game from their perspective where you start off as Plum being assigned to hunt down the missing elf Cherry and eventually run into Evil Soldier #347 and end up having adventures and such from there.
For me it's neat seeing a faceless minion becoming a party member. I mean sure he has his own name now but he's still a faceless minion. I think if he lost his helmet I'd like him less. I might still like him cause he's funny, but it's his facelessness that draws me to him.
At first I read that as "X-Potion" room and was like, "I thought they were fully-healed from a recent rest already."
Either this is a terrible plan with Syd and Plum is once again being terrible at delegating responsibilities; OR this is a GENIUS plan and Plum just really needs some alone-time right now!
Considering the list also asks for milk, eggs, and cheese, and they don't seem to have a fridge on this island, I'll have to say the latter sounds more likely.
