Alternate Title: He’s Just Trying to Make Some Friends
Get it? Because he’s trying to turn them into chums?... Yeah that’s why I didn’t go that route.
Merry Christmas ya filthy animals! Hope you’re having a good one. The best gift you guys could give me is comments, so leave them! They literally fuel the last bastions of my dopamine receptors.
Atari went entirely too hard on this page. Look at all them pretty colors and swirls and sparkles! Like yo calm down Atari, I don’t pay you enough for that. XD
... But I COULD! Subscribe to our Patreon today! ;)
I see your request for comments for Christmas gifts; but today I'm feeling.. generous. :D
Merry Christmas!
Posing a top 10 options for what the finisher to the "Well yes, but I..." line could be:
1. Don't want to upstage you. I'm only an NPC.
2. Would have to drop the shield to do that.
3. Don't like doing it. My summon and I had a fight the last time I called him.
4. Don't have enough MP after creating this shield.
5. Can't summon until you distract it long enough for me to concentrate on the summoning spell.
6. Need an assistant who is able to use the MAGIC command.
7. Act randomly in this battle. You can't depend on me to summon, even if I want to do that.
8. Can't summon under water. The spells over the city wouldn't protect them.
9. Haven't won the challenges they required, so I haven't earned a pact with anything yet.
10. Already have an active summon, he's baking cookies, for the orphanage. I don't want to risk burning them. Or the city.
So maybe Hero and Cherry are supposed to pop in and throw that Magic command Wrench at Reka in the middle of this boss fight? But they're having a boss fight against a door...does the game keep cutting from one fight to the other as the turns go by?
Completely Out Of Character dialog:
Reka: "Wait, so are those things on your chest amorphous fluid sacs as well Tuna?"
Tuna: "Want to grab them and find out?"
Reka: "... Yes."
I like the underwater city, and it's fun to see Reka have a moment in the sun after not being in this story for the past 15 years. She always seemed like the most competent member of the team, so I'm looking forward to Hero and Cherry bursting through the door only to find a dead rat king with an efficiently unscrewed exoskeleton around him.
"Reka! We're here to... save... you?"
"Oh hey guys, I think we can use this power diffuser in conjunction with this shield array to fix the ship!"
"... Cool."
I'm glad people are enjoying! I wanted to give something a little Reka-centric since everyone else has gotten their cities and backstories fleshed out.
I'll never know what Ian originally intended for her, and I definitely know it wasn't bringing her back almost immediately, but it's been long enough, and we're having fun.
Besides, this is essentially a fanfiction. What fanfiction is complete without bringing back dead characters and shipbaiting them with a fish?

I still very much enjoy the comic.
