"The Skuuba were aligned with monsters, for a time. Our genetic makeup is indistinguishable from theirs,..."
"... The few of us that tried... were perceived as monsters, ..."
Gee, I wonder how THAT mistake was made. :P
Though this does bring up an interesting point about factions. I wonder why the divide between humans and elves. Presumably if this is a generic RPG fantasy kitchen sink, there's probably dwarfs and other humanoids as well.
But then, maybe I'm reading too much into A) A story originally written by a teen/young adult and B) A 90's JRPG story. :P
Well, the Tatsachore only has three components, so any fantasy races in the story would have to be morphologically identical to one of the three races represented therein, just as Marlin explained that his people are technically monsters.
I would imagine dwarves would count as humans and gnomes would count as elves, if they were present in the setting. Can't really guess what else separates humans and elves, since magical affinity is contradicted by Galgarion's affinity for fire magic.
Perhaps it has to do with genetics? Diane and Rabble Rouser were only able to be born because of a potion that made their mother human for the duration of the gestation. Perhaps elves and humans have similar problems? That would spell trouble for Hero's and Cherry's romance.
Actually, I forgot about the Phoenix book. Could be that humans can't use magic without circumstances like that. That'd be a clear divide with the elves.
